Cognitive Education

Cognitive Education

DR. MANAHEL THABET

In all my previous articles, I have talked about the global shift towards the knowledge economy, which is intended to be a major resource for economic development based on education, the availability of technology and digital innovations, and the increasing value added to knowledge and informational goods, whose development depends on information accumulations, computers and various communication networks, and is also intended to produce, disseminate, employ, participate and use knowledge in order to improve the quality of life by benefiting from valuable information service and technological applications.

Evolution, the use of the human mind as capital, and the use of scientific research to achieve comprehensive development in various areas of life, is based on four origins: technical knowledge, creativity, intelligence, and information, the importance of which goes beyond capital, along with materials and employment that were the origins of the traditional economy.

This knowledge shift revolutionized the reformulation of theoretical and practical concepts in the world of finance and business, and the knowledge economy and its work became prevalent in the business and management of the private sector, government, and businesses, both domestically and globally, reflecting positively on increasing their capital and doubling their profits, and knowledge became the engine of production and economic growth in the world.

According to this transformation, integrated elements of the system must be provided in public and private institutions, the most important of which is the qualified human resources component with high technical skills, whose construction depends on the dissemination of a culture of creativity and innovation, as well as the modernization of the education system to have outputs consistent with the requirements of global growth, which requires the reformulation of the education system to meet the needs of the global transformation in building an integrated, knowledgeable economic society that makes education more creative and effective.

Projects and initiatives aimed at developing education through the knowledge economy portal, with key pillars in redirecting policy objectives and strategies, responding to diverse societal needs and developing integrated decision-making with ICT and e-commerce, appear to be one of the most important, progressive and driving projects to improve the modern education system that keeps pace with local, regional and international requirements and needs, creating an atmosphere of sustainable economic development and generating human potential. It is capable of active participation and abundant giving at various instructional and educational levels.

The world has realized that the fate of nations depends on the creativity and development of the members of societies, and that the balance of challenge between developed countries and others is to respond to the problems and requirements of change, says His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the State, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and in this regard: “The widening knowledge gap deprives most developing countries of real participation in the new world economy, which may expose them to many risks starting with the economy and expanding to include stability and security.”

Therefore, changing the educational system according to the data of the knowledge economy is the problem, which is the solution at the same time, on the basis that the status of education remains the same, or if its reformulation is inadequate and without realistic vision, it is a problem, and the inability to solve it will lead to failure and underdevelopment, no matter how much natural and material resources are available. Knowledge is the most important industry of the information age ever, so the construction process must start from the first stage of upbringing, during which critical thinking skills, scientific research methods, and other communication and teamwork skills are established, thus graduating new generations of qualified national cadres capable of developing and leading the knowledge economy.

The trend towards a knowledge economy is global, and is one of the most important objectives of global organizations, such as UNESCO, the European Union and the International Federation for Information Processing, and one World Bank report indicates that increased investment in the knowledge economy will be an important requirement to meet the challenge facing Arab countries, and this requires reforms in various sectors, particularly the education sector, which is responsible for preparing students to be active in the world of knowledge-based economics.

Finally, it can be said that education is the main system for the dissemination of knowledge in society, and in order to achieve the transition towards the knowledge economy, we should work to meet its requirements, the most important of which is to determine the standards of the knowledge economy in academic programs, work to evaluate and develop it in the light of those standards, and develop the curriculum according to the knowledge economy, so that it starts from a contemporary educational vision that corresponds to scientific developments, and is adopted in a functional way that includes a variety of experiences, taking into account the practical aspects, taking into account the nature of the material, and the characteristics of the learner, according to the curriculum.

Pivotal, is focusing on developing skills and trends that help the learner adapt to the demands of the times through various strategies of learning and education, focusing on cognitive economics-related skills, such as critical thinking skills, problem solving and decision-making, employing ICT, teamworking, collaboration, creativity and innovation, effectively dealing with cognitive diversity, mastering scientific research skills (in order to enhance the learner’s ability to pursue lifelong learning) and to prepare a good, integrated personality learner who contributes to community building and development, capable of learning skills, with positive interactions with other cultures, the international community, and the variables of these times.

And to talk the rest after Ramadan and every year you are fine.
